Onthe coastline of Rizhao, Shandong, “the Egret Bay”, the Sea Breeze market introduces itself with saturated invigorating colour. It is the third project in China by the Spanish architecture firm, Selgascano.

The Gatehouse Café project, also located in Rizhao, explored architectural obscurity through transparent acrylic design, where the Sea Breeze market project uses a coloured acrylic façade to address the question of how architecture, through the mediation of colour, can reshape the sensory relationship between people and the native coastline.

Selgascano’s use of colour is not in the creation of a decorative design. In their architectural practice, colour is consistently tied into a spatial experience.
海风市集的建筑外立面采用汤臣亚克力，经汤臣新材后期喷砂与贴膜处理，使板材在不同光照下呈现动态的色彩变化——晨光、正午直射、傍晚漫射乃至夜间人工照明，都会引发微妙的色相偏移。
The external façade incorporates the use of DONCHAMP® acrylic panels, which is further sandblasted with decorative film applied inhouse by DONCHAMP®. The finish allows the panels to shift in colour whilst changing appearance with light—morning, midday, dusk and artificial light each produce subtle tones in variation.
远观时，建筑如同沙滩上的一块彩色晶体；近看时，磨砂表面柔化了光线，赋予色彩内敛的质感，而非高光下的刺目感。
From a distance, the building appears as a coloured crystal on the sand. Up close, the frosted surface softens the light, giving the colour an understated quality rather than a high gloss appearance with resulting glare.

For architects, material durability often determines whether a concept can be realised. The DONCHAMP® TC-1 transparent panel series is supported with a 15,000-hour accelerated weathering test, listing a reduction in light transmission from the original 92.7% to 91.5% on completion.
门卫咖啡厅是理解这一协作关系的起点。门卫咖啡厅的外立面全部采用透明亚克力，共87片，单片最大尺寸为2750mm×1497mm。Selgascano试图让建筑消隐于松林之间，透明界面使视线穿透建筑，直接抵达自然。
The Gatehouse Café marks is the beginning of this collaborative approach. Its external walls are made entirely of 87 panels DONCHAMP® transparent acrylic, the largest measuring 2750 mm × 1497 mm.
Selgascano sought to enable the building to recede among the pines in the landscape, where the transparent surface allows views to pass through the architecture and be in contact with the nature beyond.
